In April 2013, I received a call from my father that changed my life. He told me that he had been diagnosed with cancer, at the age of 90. He refused all treatment because, as he said, “A cold could kill me at my age and they want men to have radiation! I’m not doing that.” All he wanted to do was have fun. We hung up the phone and my mind was already made up. I was going to move from Michigan to Texas and, for as long as I could, have fun with my dad.

I put my house on the market and moved to Texas. It took a while but I found a motivated buyer for my house in Michigan and the sales process began. We were just about to close when I got an angry call from the buyer telling me that the mortgage company found out that she had quit her job.

“You did what?”, I blurted out. Now, I was angry. She didn’t get her loan and I was now 1,500 miles away from an empty house with no buyer. I was not happy. She told me to give back the $5,000 deposit she had put on the house. I refused on the grounds that she had breached our contract leaving me in a pretty bad position. The would-be buyer turned around and sued me.

This would seem like a terribly stressful situation, but I have LegalShield. I called my Texas law firm and they connected me to the Michigan law firm, who proceeded to send a lawyer to court on my behalf. We won the case, of course. After all, these are highly qualified lawyers. I was so relieved when the lawyer called me to give me the good news.

That lawsuit didn’t cost me one cent over my $25 monthly membership. I didn’t have huge costs or any travel expenses. I let my law firms take care of the lawsuit for me. Meanwhile, without feeling the stress of a legal battle, I continued having fun with my father every day for the next 6 months.
