132- What's in your silos?

Yesterday, I wrote about those key employees of a company, who control each department of a business in relation to their own needs rather than the best interests of the company.

These departments are known as silos, and in his book, Organizational Myopia, @John Knotts explains how these silos can paralyze or even destroy a company.

Departments, such as Marketing, Human Resources, Accounting, Servicing, Administration, Production, etc. make up the individual silos.

I had never thought about the necessity of silos, much less their ability to destroy a company, but I have seen them from a vendor's point of view.

Then, thinking back over the years, I began to recognize patterns where I had seen the effects of siloing in companies I have worked with.

I used the example of the payroll person who doesn't want (or need) any more time-consuming additions to their workload and therefore will reject any new products or services that they perceive to be more work.

But what about all the other areas and the effects their silos can have?

The question is, do you really know the real leaders within your organizational silos?
