It wasn't until I entered the world of business that I truly appreciated what my father did for a living.
When I was young, my dad was a paint salesman for a well-known paint company.
One year, he got an award for being the #1 Salesman in the country.
It didn't mean nearly as much to me then as it does now.
I was with my dad daily for the last 8 months of his life.
I learned so much.
I asked him why he hadn't told us more about being in sales or the fact that he always had a 5-year plan.
He said that he didn't think we, my siblings and I, would be interested.
We had a good laugh about that, as it was probably one of the most important things he could have taught us.
But, my dad had no regrets. He was proud of each of us.
I have learned that my dad was incredibly humble, anything but boastful.
My father attributed one thing to his success over other salesmen.
He listened.
I am so happy and grateful to have learned some powerful lessons from my dad.
What did you learn from your father?
