LinkedIn should be called professional media rather than social media.
Too many people don't know how to interact in a professional manner, to help others and grow their businesses.
I meet more and more people who don't why they should engage on LinkedIn.
Many people are just trying to connect with as many people as they can without ever interacting.
It's like looking in another direction while shaking hands with someone you just met. Then they walk away.
It's important to first understand why you are on LinkedIn and why others are here.
Are you trying to sell your services directly to the people you connect with?
Are you an employee who likes engaging with coworkers to increase exposure for your company?
Maybe you are a CEO who only has minimal time to engage but likes to read the content of others and keep up on business articles and trends.
There are many reasons and knowing your own will prevent you from looking like a loiterer, just hanging around for no apparent reason.
One of the most annoying things about any social media is the people who are there to increase their number of connections with no real intention of engaging.
Have you ever connected with someone who immediately sent you a link to their promotions along with a lengthy paragraph about their services?
Nothing says sleazy salesperson more than a sales promotion before they ever say hello.
LinkedIn is a business network and the only way to network professionally is to engage with people and build relationships.
Leave comments on posts is a great way to engage.
Never tell another business person on LinkedIn that you are busy. That's like a lsap in the face. We're all busy. If you're here, make the time to interact.
It takes time.
Granted there are many people who can't possibly engage with thousands of followers. They bring value throughtheir content.
Following someone to learn from them, and connecting with them to engage are 2 different things.
