We all take part in conference calls, presentations, and other events as part of our work.
I'd venture to say that we all have an opinion about the speakers. Were they motivating and inspiring, boring, and longwinded?
But how prepared are you to step up and lead the call or give a presentation?
What would you do if someone asked you to speak the day before a presentation is scheduled? What about 15 minutes?
Yesterday, I received a call from one of my clients. They were having open enrollment for their employees at 7 am today.
It's times like this that you see how prepared you are.
I prepared materials to hand out to employees and reviewed the client's information.
Since my company doesn't raise its rates on existing clients, it's important to know exactly what rates a particular company is paying.
This morning I gave my first presentation and to my surprise, I did something new and unplanned.
I know my presentation very well. I was able to incorporate the client's vision statement into my script after seeing it briefly on the screen when the CEO spoke.
It makes a difference when you show that you are paying attention and not there just to sell your services. To do so, you must be prepared.
It's more than knowing your services and products. Are you able to get up at a moment's notice and represent your company?
