Have you ever been faced with a difficult decision?
Sometimes we get stuck having to make decisions because other people didn't want to be responsible.
Here's reality.
People who couldn't or wouldn't decide bear as much responsibility as the person left with the task.
Giving up your ability to decide is a decision in itself.
Indecision is a decision.
Maybe you have a manager who constantly shirks their responsibility to make decisions by telling employees to figure it out.
They may believe that if the decision proves wrong, they won't carry any blame.
By being indecisive, you have decided to allow someone else to decide on your behalf and you are therefore equally responsible for the results.
Indecision can have both positive and negative effects.
You may have told a colleague you respect to make an important decision because they have broader insight. As a result, you land an important contract. You trusted your colleague and it worked out for you both.
Other circumstances may come to mind where the person who made the decision is left with the blame when things didn't go right.
Unless that person is at the top of the chain, they should not be alone if others could have helped in the decision-making process.
Good leaders accept responsibility. They don't attempt to pass the blame to anyone else.
Do you accept the responsibility to make important decisions?
