Yesterday was a busy day for alerting people about fake profiles.
Should you care about fake profiles? ABSOLUTELY
Too many people are accepting connection requests without looking at the profile of the person.
They may be intent on having a large network even though they have no interest in doing business with or sending business to them.
What also makes matters worse, LinkedIn does not recognize fake profiles most of the time.
Granted, a lot of fake profiles look pretty good.
What is a Fake Profile?
A profile that is not the person they say they are. The picture is most likely stolen and the data about the person are fictitious.
How to spot a potentially Fake Profile?
READ PROFILES! It is usually glaringly obvious.
Private message me for more information. I'm not about to give potential scammers information that could help them.
Why would people create a Fake Profile and what are they using them to do?
This should be obvious but evidently, it's not. TO MAKE MONEY!
People from many countries, including 3rd world countries, attempt to make money with Bitcoin scams and some even profess to be in ministry, looking for donations.
FYI, English is the primary language in Nigeria and Ghana, 2 countries known for scammers. Stop being fooled because they know your language. It's theirs too!
A basic rule on any social media - DO NOT SEND MONEY TO ANYONE, especially based on a few written conversations. If the deal sounds too good to be true, IT IS! Meet them FACE TO FACE first.
Learn to recognize fake profiles and you will save yourself and your network a lot of headaches.
