Do you have the TV running non-stop in the background?
Are you set to one specific channel for news?
Do you ever go for an evening with no TV?
I was on a zoom yesterday where I told the group that I do not own a TV.
I haven't owned a TV for the past 15 years.
There were a few heads shaking and others laughed.
I don't need it. I can get news online if I really want to see what's going on.
People around me talk about how bad things are.
I can tell exactly which news channel they watch just from hearing them talk.
And yet, here on LinkedIn, most people suppress their need to vent about politics because this is a business networking site.
I imagine that must be stressful.
When you talk about your political views, as opposed to business topics, you stand to lose 50% of your audience.
I highly recommend turning off your TV.
One person asked me what should they do if they forgo TV.
Here are some suggestions:
Read a great book
Write- your book, your journal, a short story, a letter to a distant friend/relative.
Do gardening
Visit with my little sister from Big Brother Big Sister
Take up a hobby or craft
Meditate
Join a class (online or live) on a subject you enjoy
The mere thought that the person wouldn't know what to do without TV time caused me to wonder.
How many people are there that would be lost without TV?
When was the last time you turned off your TV for more than 3 days?
