Since 2008, I have been choosing a word for the year.
In my first year, the word I chose was GRATITUDE, because it was exactly what I needed to get me through those tough financial times in Michigan.
I was driving to work one day, thinking about all the things I was grateful for and it came to me that I should make Gratitude a word to focus on that year.
It seemed like a great idea.
Suddenly, as I was considering the idea of a Word of the Year, a Mercedes passed me.
The license plate read: Gr8itud (Twilight Zone music started playing)
If that wasn't a sign, I don't know what would be. I laughed out loud and accepted Gratitude as my new word!
I don’t remember the word for each of those years, but they are always words that MOTIVATE and INSPIRE.
Those were both Words of the Year at some point, along with words like JOY, DESIRE, PERSISTENCE, FOCUS, DETERMINED, and COMMITTED.
I usually let the word come to me.
In 2020, my word was ADVENTURE. Indeed, it was.
I had just begun that year with a trip to Nigeria. Then the adventure took a turn.
My Word for 2021 was EMBRACE! I wanted to embrace everything that happened in 2020 and what is yet to come.
For 2022 the word is UNLEASH.
2022 will be a year I unleash my full potential.
Keeping a word or phrase at the front of your focus helps to keep you in line with your vision and your goals. You will also notice your word showing up in ways you hadn't expected.
