Identity theft wasn't a major concern until the internet changed the world.
Identity theft has been around for thousands of years. It is even written about in the Bible.
There are a few factors that everyone should be aware of.
Not scared of... Aware of.
Identity Theft does not discriminate in any way.
It is not concerned with age, gender, race, cultural status, or even if the person is alive.
It affects everyone, including babies, businesses, the deceased, and everything between.
What gives so many people the impression that it will never affect them?
There are many areas of identity theft and most of them are not monitored.
Please read that again. MOST AREAS CAN NOT BE MONITORED.
Credit monitoring is NOT identity theft protection. It is credit fraud protection.
Things like your medical information, children's information, and your driver's license are not monitored.
Only credit-related things like:
applying for a loan or credit card
looking for a job
Or when you want to
buy a home or rent an apartment
buy or lease a car
get homeowners or rental insurance
Regarding tax fraud:
- If you owe taxes, thieves can still use your social security number to get a job and you could owe more than you thought.
- If you expect to receive a tax return, thieves could file it before you, and receive your tax return.
I credit one of the largest (not best) companies in the US for spreading this misconception.
The owner of the company first advertised by putting his own social security number on the side of a truck. People fell for it.
The company has a spectacular marketing plan, investing over $500million in advertising each year.
ADVERTISING WORKS.
The owner has made a fortune and had his identity stolen many times over as a result of his negligence.
The company gave Americans the impression that they could prevent identity theft.
To this day, there is NO COMPANY THAT CAN PREVENT IDENTITY THEFT.
Americans bought into the hype, even after the FTC slammed the company with a $100 Million fine for deceptive advertising.
The damage is long done.
There are companies cropping up daily that offer identity theft protection when they mean credit monitoring services.
The general public today still believes credit monitoring equals identity theft protection.
The name credit monitoring can't be more clear. Such services MONITOR CREDIT, nothing more.
I talk to people all the time who boast that they are protected by one of the credit bureaus, through their insurance company or bank.
I have clients who are insurance professionals who know their company's services are not robust enough.
Identity theft is taking employees away from work and costing business owners a lot of money.
This is why I love my work. One person, one business at a time. We are helping to educate, empower and protect people.
I help small business owners, their employees, and the general public to understand the reality of identity theft.
I give them robust services to empower them before, during, and after identity theft hits.
We don't have a $1 million guarantee. Ours is unlimited.
We will do whatever it takes for as long as it takes to return our members to pre-theft status.
Are you and your employees protected from identity theft?
