Disruptive innovators are a hot topic in business today but they're not new.

In a recent article, @John Knotts mentioned, "disruptive means that you've sought out solutions to the root causes, while others just address the symptoms".

I have a somewhat different understanding of what disruptive innovators do.

Disruptive innovators use more convenient and affordable methods of providing long standing services.

The new companies make it simpler, easier and more affordable to get the same services or better.

Examples of disruptive innovators are Uber/Lyft that turned the ride share (taxi) industry around. No one has to wait as long or pay as much for a ride. Yet, Uber/Lyft don't own any cars.

Another great example is Amazon which went from selling books to bringing the entire global mall to our fingers tips. Amazon opened the whole world of shopping with incredible shipping times as well.

AirBnB has taken over night stays to a new level, although they don't own any hotels.

Companies like Netflix and Spotify have disrupted the entertainment industry bringing an endless stream of movies and music to our devices for a fraction of what they once cost.

Amazon is the oldest of the above mentioned companies, at only 27 years. Lyft has only been around for 9 years.

You could say these disruptive models are relatively new but other disruptors have been around much longer. Insurance was once a disruptive innovator.

Benjamin Franklin founded the oldest insurance company in American in 1752. The Philadelphia Contributionship Insurance Company began as fire insurance for homes.

Disruptive companies bring the same or greater value to customers at competitive prices making their services available to more people.

LegalShield has been disrupting the legal system for 50 years.

Americans used to be priced out of the legal system.

LegalShield was created to make it affordable for everyone to access their rights.

Every American can their will prepared without spending hundreds or even thousands of dollars.

LegalShield does not require you to wait for bad things happen, unlike insurance.

We are there to help everyone make good decisions and avoid legal pitfalls.

We will continue disrupting the industry as long as it takes for every American to have access to their rights whenever they need it.

Not every company has to be disruptive. But, disruptive innovation will continue to bring new ways of providing consumers with services and products that improve their lives.

Share an example of a disruptive company that you find helpful.
