Today is 3.14, otherwise known as Pi (π) Day.
Before I get into the great thing about Pi Day, here are a few interesting tidbits.
The Greek symbol for Pi (π) has been used for almost 4000 years!
This famous irrational number begins: 3.14159265358979323846264338327950288419716939937510...
It has now been calculated to over 9 trillion digits.
I'm no mathematician, but the gist of Pi is that it helps us understand our universe with greater clarity.
Pi is the ratio between a circle's circumference and its diameter.
It is irrational because it can't be expressed as a simple fraction.
I'll take their word for it. For more detail, ask google!
It must be important because NASA uses Pi to the 15th digit. Why?
Another interesting fact about March 14 is that it is Albert Einstein's birthday.
How cool is that?! Coinicidence?? hmmm...
Even more interesting about Pi day, unless you are a mathematician, is that we celebrate it with pie.
We can use Pi to determine the size of a pie, but who cares?
This is a great excuse to take a pie to work to surprise your colleagues.
Stop on the way home and surprise a friend or your family with their favorite pie.
Who will you surprise with a pie today for Pi Day?
