A lot of people like to keep a regular check on their credit score.
They believe that checking their credit it s way to stay ahead of identity thieves.
Having a healthy credit score is important but it has nothing to do with identity theft.
If you have a low credit score, you are just as likely to have your identity stolen because thieves know you probably aren't paying attention to it.
Too many people believe a low credit score means they won't become victims of identity theft.
I hear it all the time. Things like:
"My credit is so bad, they can have it".
"I don't have any credit, so there's nothing to steal".
There is no bigger mistake than to think you don't have to watch your credit because your score is low.
Thieves will still use your information for other crimes that are unrelated to credit, so it won't show up on your credit score anyway.
You can check your credit score 3 times per year by using the government website.
Or, You can go to each credit bureau, Equifax, Transunion, or Experian, or the website below.
Annual Credit Report is the government website: https://www.annualcreditreport.com/index.action
You can go to Annual Credit Report 3 times a year and get your credit report from each of the credit bureaus.
Remember, that doesn't mean you are safe from identity theft.
Credit fraud is only one area of identity theft.
Your credit score will not reveal most criminal activity related to identity theft.
Credit monitoring and knowing your credit score have no affect on identity theft activity.
Don't be fooled by companies that send you constant alerts that attempt to keep you blissfully ignorant.
The best thing you can do is have a team of licensed private investigators on your side to take care of any issues that arise.
Check your credit score and make sure you have a comprehensive identity theft protection.
Have you been under the impression that credit monitoring prevents identity theft?
