Business networking is popular for meeting possible clients, referral sources or business partners.
There are different ways to network, such as professional organizations and after-hour networking events. You can also set up a small gathering of trusted partners for a monthly breakfast or lunch meeting.
The question is, are you networking efficiently ?
Times have changed and so has the way we network.
Do you still attend with the intention of shaking as many hands as possible and handing out your treasured business cards?
If so, PLEASE STOP!
It used to be that you went to events with a fist full of business cards. Some events even had a contest to see who could collect the most business cards.
If you've been to one of those events, you know that brought little value and most people never make the call to those whose cards they gathered.
It was a useless exercise, albeit fun!
Networking has changed. It's become more intentional.
Yesterday, I traveled to Austin to take part in an amazing event through Bx - Business Networking Reimagined.
Matt Alderton ~ CEO of Aust's No. 1 Business Networking, was here from Australia launching new groups here in Texas.
Matt's energy and passion for connecting people was palpable.
The whole focus of BX meetings is on building connections.
Remember, it's not about them. It's about who they might know.
For example, I was connected with an insurance agent, who may not need my services. However, he has many clients who do. The reverse is true as well.
The whole atmosphere is more laid back and the pressure of handing in closed business, some people feel, is gone.
Networking is now about connections and bringing value to others.
Who are 2 people in your LinkedIn network you could introduce today?
