Do you show up to other people's posts with integrity?
I ask that question because I see a lot of people who bring no value to the posts they engage on.
What is the purpose of engaging if you have nothing to add?
There are several reasons to consider why you engage on other's posts.
First, when you comment with 5 words or more, that helps the algorithms of the post.
Second, you add to the discussion, thus bringing value to the post.
Third, you help others engage and communicate with each other, which is the whole point.
Fourth, others will read and respond to your comments. This is where they show who they are in relation to you. Like-minded people bond and connect.
It's about building a strong network, not getting thousands of 2 words comments.
Some of the most common useless responses I see are:
👎 Great Job
👎 Awesome post
👎 That's so inspiring
👎 Great insights
The list of useless responses goes on...
What was great about it?
Why did you think it was awesome?
What was inspiring about it?
What made it insightful?
Whatever that 2 word response is, please, do us all a favor and tell us why.
Do you disagree with a post? THAT'S FINE TOO.
✅ Discussion is welcome as long as it is mature and conversational.
If you can't disagree without hurling insults and belittling people, you may want to go back to Personal Development 101.
I once disagreed, politely and professionally, on someone's post, giving valid reasons of disagreeing.
The post writer thrashed me verbally (in a way she would never to publicly) in a private message. How DARE I disagree with her. She was working towards being recognized by LInkedIn...blahblahblah.
The Spot Light was her goal.
If your goal is to be recognized by LinkedIn for your contributions, and you don't like honest discourse, you may be in the wrong place.
At some point, the truth will come out.
✅ Show up on LinkedIn with integrity.
I also see people's responses that have nothing to do with the post.
One of my favorite content writers, Fred Diamond, always begins his post with recognition to a current event or important announcement.
Right now, he has important information about the upcoming Suicide Hotline at the top of his post.
As you read further, he continues with the business topic of the day.
One person commented on his post, mentioning the Suicide Hotline, but it was obvious the person never read the rest of the post!
✅ We can do better!
Engage with others the way you want them to engage with you. Sound Familiar?
Do you read the posts you comment on?
