People sell cars everyday but they don't all understand the full process beforehand.

If you have ever been to the DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles), you have likely seen people get turned away because they didn't have the right paperwork.

I have seen situations where neither party knew exactly what they were doing or if they had the right paperwork. They might as well have been blindfolded.

The paperwork required varies from state to state.

For many people, it seems like an unnecessary, bureaucratic waste of time. But it ensures that the vehicle is not stolen, has been in an accident, has any recalls or has a lien on it.

It all has to do with the legalities of a vehicle changing hands.

Selling a car is what we call a life legal event.

Here is how one of my clients handled the sale of his vehicle.

"We decided to sell our Avalon, but I had questions about the exact process and paperwork for selling it to private parties.

I could have gone to the DMV, but I had a buyer scheduled to come see it, and with the DMV, you have to make an appointment way in advance (a few days).

So, it was much faster and easier to call my attorney using LegalShield and have them walk me through the process, and they even gave me the working for the Bill of Sale.

Then I got a follow up email with the release of liability info.

That was way faster and better than using the DMV. ~ G. Whelan, Idaho

It's all about having peace of mind no matter what the situation is.

Being prepared for whatever comes your way provides you the freedom you deserve.

If you know someone selling a car, share the article I posted in the comments.

It's important to identity life legal events when they happen.

Would you call an attorney for advice, if you knew you wouldn't get a big bill?
