Until you put some thought into other people's needs, you won't get far on LinkedIn.

Whether you are job searching, looking for new employees or an entrepreneur here to sell your services, you must remember that this is a 2 way street.

I recently put my schedule calendar on my profile to make it easy for people to find.

What happened is, some guy who offers cleaning services in another country has booked 2 appointments on my calendar without ever saying what his intentions are.

His only message said, "I have a cleaning business", but he's half way around the world.

I can't help him and I can't even use his services.

Here is what that's like to me:

❓You know many people's addresses. But, would you show up at their house unannounced?

❓ Would you walk into someone's office without letting them know why you are coming?

Social media has a long way to go as far as social graces go.

There are rules to setting appointments that are obvious to most, but unfortunately not all.

I'm sorry that I can't help your business anywhere but the US and Canada, and I certainly don't want to be rude.

When you set an appointment with people you meet, at least be sure to write a short note where it's provided on the calendar.

Set appointments with people you are connected with, not 2nd or 3rd tier connections.

It's all about communication. Don't assume the other party knows what you want.

Communication is a two way street.

Do you schedule appointments without telling the other person why?
