I was asked what my process is for connecting with people on LinkedIn.
There are several things that I do that have worked well for me.
If you are connecting with everyone who requests it, you will end up with something that resembles a ladies afternoon tea, a pre-game tailgate party, a board meeting, and a few other groups, all going on at the same time.
It depends on whether it's an incoming invitation to connect or an outgoing from me.
When I receive an invitation to connect, I look at the person's profile to see where they're from, and how engaged they are on Linkedin.
I can only do business in the US and Canada. For that reason, I connect primarily with people in those countries, not exclusively.
Since I like to meet with people I connect with, I don't have time to meet with people all over the world, as much as I would love to.
I look at other criteria as well, such as consistency in posting, what industry they are in, and number of followers.
My goal is to meet with them personally on a live zoom meeting. Yes, this is time consuming but we are building a relationship.
My business requires that I build relationships because most people are suspicious of the legal industry, in general.
Relationships take time.
Everyone has their own process in building their network.
It's not a cookie cutter process, nor does one size fit all.
Find what works for you and keep duplicating that.
What is your process to build your network?
