We are constantly told to ASK.
If you want to meet someone, ask to be introduced. If you want the sale, ask for it.
I don't normally ask people in my network for referrals, they tend to come organically.
However, there is nothing wrong with asking. That's what network partners do.
I know very few people who think about connecting others on a daily basis.
That's why we must be bold and ask.
Your network doesn't have YOU (or me) at the top of their minds. They're as busy as you are.
There are different ways to ask for an introduction.
Don't ask for introductions from people you don't know. They don't know you either.
I won't give anyone a introduction if I haven't met with them personally first. That's why I always ask for a short zoom meeting to get to know people in my network better.
This is how we begin to build trust.
You may ask to be introduced to a specific person or you may request an intro to someone in a specific industry.
It's important to be honest and transparent about your reason to connect.
When I meet with people on Zoom, one of my goals is to think of a few others I can connect them with.
This doesn't mean they are going to sell anything to that person. If that's their intention, I more than likely will not introduce them.
Only once have I received feedback that the person I introduced was pushy and "salesy" from the first introduction. I deleted that person from my network.
I connect people because I see value for both people I'm introducing. There are many factors, often it's on common interests because people with common interests tend to bond faster.
When you meet new people consider who in your network they would benefit from meeting.
Does it make you uncomfortable when people ask you for introductions?
How do you handle it when you're not sure the person asking should be granted the introduction?
One thing I do is tell the person who asks that I must get permission first. Once I have permission, I make the introduction.
Do you ask for introductions?
