"It's what you learn after you know it all that matters"~ John Wooden
I've read many posts, and written a few myself, with a famous quote attached for emphasis and to illustrate the post's message.
Other people criticize the use of quotes as being trite, and the user as unimaginative, most often with an air of arrogance.
There are so many memorable lines from books, speeches, movies, and other sources help us communicate. We learn from many of them.
They make us think.
Quotes often open one's eyes to a better understanding of what they thought they already knew.
If you don't like people using quotes and affirmations in their posts, don't moan about it in the comments, hidden among other people's comments.
You have the choice to move on (unless your opinion was requested), or write your own post to clarify what you have against these tools of communication.
Give us examples of how you communicate better without extra emphasis.
Equally important is that those who write content give proper acknowledgment to the source of the quote.
DO NOT PLAGIARIZE, EVER!
I knew someone who often used content from other people without giving credit to the author. They saw nothing wrong with it until someone stole their content.
It took on a whole new meaning. That person suddenly realized what it felt like to have his work plagiarized.
The bottom line is this:
If you don't post original content, don't complain about the content of those who do
If you do write content, write your own. Share your own knowledge, thoughts, and opinions.
When you share a quote, make it relevant to the post and give credit to the source.
"How you do anything is how you do everything" ~ T. Harv Eker
You may think you're fooling us but you're not.
The people you work with, your boss, and your clients will be aware of it. Your family and friends already know it.
All three quotes I have used in this post give reason to pause and contemplate.
Will you share a favorite quote of yours that made you stop and think?
