I love getting content ideas from other people and today is no different than any other.

As I was reading through the posts in my feed today, one line in @Koda August's post stuck out. No, it actually slapped me right in the face.

Koda said Pitching is a privilege, not a right.

To everyone I ever pitched to in my first message, I apologize.

I apologize to everyone I ever pitched to in my second and following messages.

Pitching is genuinely not your right until you have earned it.

This morning I received 2 messages from different people that looked surprisingly similar in wording and format.

Each message gave the impression that I should have replied to their first message.

STOP THAT!! Nothing is more irritating than being reprimanded for not replying to messages I never asked for.

Just because you send a message does not mean you deserve a reply.

I had to laugh as I wrote that last sentence. The absurdity!

It was a beautiful day when I realized that I have no obligation to reply to people I don't know, who send sales messages requesting a response.

If you don't know a person, why should they do business with you?

Where ever you are, ask yourself that question.

Why should anyone who doesn't know (like and trust) you do business with you based on a cold outreach?

Do you agree that pitching is a privilege, not a right?
