We often talk about how difficult it is to say, I'm sorry, or, Please forgive me.
There are also people who struggle to say, Thank You.
Have you noticed?
You may give someone a compliment and the most you will get is a soft chuckle and a "thanks" or "it wasn't necessary".
It happens a lot on social media.
Often, a genuine Thank You, is missing.
There is a big difference between saying thanks and thank you.
Acknowledging gratitude to others is becoming a lost art.
People act as if they will owe the person who says thank you. Therefore, it's better to play down the compliment.
Look the person who thanks you in the eyes and acknowledge their gratitude with a genuine "You're welcome!".
Own it. That is the pay back and it will make them feel good too.
Stand behind the thanks you give.
Look at the difference in these messages thanking someone.
Thank you so much for the referral. I appreciate you. I'll call them now.
Thanks for the referral. I'll call them.

They all send the same message but with subtle differences.
Text language has taken away all emotion leaving the possibility for too many assumptions. But that's a different topic all together.
When someone compliments you, say Thank You.
When helps you, say Thank you.
When someone does something nice for you, say Thank You.
In the same manner, when someone thanks you, say You're Welcome!
Thank You and You're Welcome go together like soap and water, soup and a sandwich, or BBQ ribs and corn on the cob.
Savor the gratitude and savor the appreciation.
They are small steps in raising our level of awareness in business and in life.
Now, will someone please pass the BBQ sauce...
