There is a lot of talk about how and why to connect on LinkedIn.

Many people connect and then disappear, whether they were invited or they did the inviting.

If you are one of them, why don't you engage at all, or only promote yourself with no interest in the person you are connected with?

Why are you here?

I want so much to ask WHY DID YOU CONNECT? Most people are not even sure what they are doing here.

My purpose on LinkedIn is to engage with people in my network.

This has led to me expanding my business from 7 states to 23.

Strong business relationships occur when people know, like, and trust each other, right?

How do you contribute to those aspects on LinkedIn?

You can grow your network, post your content, share other people's content and get to know prospective referral partners.

This is a relational network first and foremost. No one wants to buy from you if they have no idea who you are.

Further, when you introduce yourself with an immediate offer to meet so you can determine if I am a good fit for your business...well, that's just sleazy.

If I go to your calendar to set an appointment and I am met with a barrage of questions about my intentions to buy...that's beyond sleazy.

I don't even know you. Why would I already be making such a decision?

Consider this. I aim to connect you to others who may need your services or products, even if I don't.

Your purpose should be to introduce yourself, tell about your business, and learn about mine so we can support each other.

How can you best support your network? Post original content, share and comment on others' content, and introduce people.

Set up zoom meetings to get to know the people in your network. Get together for coffee with those who are local.

You have to work at LinkedIn, otherwise, it's just another social media platform.

What is your purpose for being on LinkedIn?
