Today, November 11, 2022, is Veterans Day in the US.
It is a day of thanks and commemoration.
This is the anniversary of the signing of the armistice, that ended World War I in 1918.
While considered a holiday, it is one of thanks and commemoration, not parties and fireworks. It's a time to honor those who stood up and served their country in the most honorable way possible.
They put their lives on the line for our freedoms; many lost their lives.
Everyone who is able to read this post lives in a country where men have fought for their freedoms.
As I think of all the unnecessary war that has taken place in the world, I consider the countries that do not have the freedoms we have.
We will never stop fighting wars, as long as there are forces wanting to take away our freedom.
Sadly, many people do not understand what it means to be free. They think it means they can do whatever they want, wherever they want and in any way they want to.
Freedom doesn't mean you can do anything you want.
We have the right to free speech within the law. It doesn't give us the right to threaten or slander anyone.
That would be abusing your rights.
Freedom does not entitle us to treat people any way we want to.
Freedom, more than anything, is a privilege.
It would serve us all well to learn more about what freedom is and is not.
Our veterans are a reminder of what it takes to protect and maintain these privileges we call freedom.
Give thanks today to someone who served.
