There, I said it out loud.

Identity theft can not be prevented.

The company LifeLock suffered the consequences of deceptive advertising when it received a $100 million fine from the FTC. The company led people to believe ID theft is preventable.

Sadly, millions of Americans believed their identity was secure by having LifeLock.

Insider threats are among the biggest threats.

See @Todd Wexler's post on insider threats. Here is the link to his post: https://www.linkedin.com/posts/netresultsgroup_cybersecurity-business-security-activity-6991805340455469057-d_3t?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop

All it takes is one employee who extracts the personal information of clients and employees and sells it on the dark web.

This is not meant to scare anyone. It's simply a fact.

Identity thieves are also hiding all over the world.

Governments have been hacked.

The US Air Force has been hacked. Imagine the damage a military-grade hacker can cause.

But this is not what we should focus on. Focus on being diligent in everything you do.

Educate your employees on and protect them from the threats.

You can help prevent things from worsening by being proactive before clicking on something you aren't sure of.

Stop joking about identity theft and start discussing it intelligently.

Thieves do not care if you have bad credit. The crimes they commit using your information are not monitored anyway.
