I had a phenomenal holiday with my family.

My kids left to catch their flights out of Charlotte, NC. I didn't have to leave until the late afternoon, from Columbia, SC.

Suddenly, I realized my purse was no where to be found.

It didn't take me long to figure out that it must have slipped out of a bigger bag and under the seat of the rental car that was now 2 hours away.

Side note, it was not possible to contact National Rental car at the airport location. We tried everything.

While other family members were freaking out, I remained calm.

My sister-in-law asked how I could be so calm.

I answered with my standard question in a situation like this...

How is worrying and stressing out going to help resolve this situation?

Does it show that I somehow care more?

No!

Will it help better the situation in any way?

No!

I remained calm as I mentally checked off the items in my purse and handled each one.

✅ Credit cards were quickly cancelled.

✅ I called the airport and learned that I could fly using the photo of my driver's license on my phone and that TSA would take much longer than normal.

✅ I reserved a Lyft. I'll have to pick up my car later.

✅ I asked my neighbor to hide my key so I could get in.

✅ I called the hotel where my car was parked to inform them I would pick it up today.

From that moment on, my entire trip was problem free. Everything ran smoothly.

TSA took about 40 minutes to get through, even though I was the only person in line.

Of course, they had to go through specific steps to make sure I am who I say I am, and I'm pretty sure they are trained to move slowly. V e r y s l o w l y....

The worst part of this situation was watching the people around me get anxious and worried. At one point, I almost felt obliged to look worried and start writing my hands, but NO... I didn't do it.

Are you one of those people who makes a situation worse by stressing out?

That's a tough question for those who feel the need to display their emotions. The only need in an urgent situation is a clear head and forethought on how to resolve it.
