In business and in life we often ask the wrong questions.
Do you remember being asked what you wanted to be when you grow up?
That question always stumped me. I had no idea what I wanted to be or do.
@Larry Reines shared an excellent post about the importance of knowing your Why.

Watch the video and notice that the woman is asking the wrong questions but the boy gave a wise answer.
He already knows his Why. He wants to make people feel okay. How cool is that?
He wasn’t thinking about money. He was thinking about helping people.
Asking a child how much he wants to earn has to be one of the most out-of-touch questions an adult can ask. They are asking from their own perspective, not the child’s.
Do adults still ask ridiculous questions to a child like, Who do you want to marry?
I sure hope not. I was embarrassed by that question on more than one occasion as a child.
Consider the questions you ask your employees, peers, and prospective clients.
Are you asking them the questions THEY NEED or the questions you think will help you seal a deal?
Are you thinking about the mission or the commission?
Be mission-driven not commission driven.
Are you asking the right questions?
