I met with a new connection to get to learn more about what she does and share what I do.
It was the typical 1-2-1 of learning more about each other and building a relationship to support each other on LinkedIn.
After asking me about my services, the woman said, "It sounds great! Everyone should have that."
Suddenly, she stopped and exclaimed, "OH! That's slick. I see what you did there, making me want to buy your services."
W H A T ???
I had done what we all do in 1-2-1 meetings. I learned about her business and told her about mine, period.
I answered her questions.
She saw value in what I provided but thought I had a hidden agenda. Then she turned it back on me as if I was a sleazy salesperson.
If you tell someone what you do and they ask questions that, when answered, cause them to see value in your services, that doesn't make you sleazy or cunning.
I didn't sell her through a hidden agenda and persuasive trickery.
My services sold themselves through the questions she asked.
I was open and honest about what my services provide.
Her reaction to the protection she found so valuable made me laugh. I told her I can't change that the value she sees is real.
Don't ever shrink away from someone who accuses you of trying to sell to them, when your intention was to answer their questions honestly.
Own what you do and what you stand for, regardless of opinions.
There are people out there who are praying for your services/products.
I will continue to be unapologetic and explain what I do when asked.
Many people want to become my clients because the idea of having their family or business protected for such a low cost makes sense. People are indeed seeking me.
