Have you ever heard someone talking about a service, product, or even a restaurant you had no idea about?
Then they tell you they've been using it or going there for years and you wonder why they never said anything.
There is no way we can each know all the great products, services, and other valuable things available to us.
There are over 8 million businesses in the US alone.
That's why we appreciate and share with family, friends, and great connections what we have experienced and get value from.
On the other hand, we've also had people tell us about all kinds of things like movies, games, and places they've been without us having to prompt them. We might not even care to know.
We all share information with each other on a regular basis.
What I find interesting is that, if I share about a movie restaurant, or a service I am happy with, I get great responses.
When I share about my own business and the value of the services I get, suddenly I am classified as being salesy, as if I'm only trying to make money off of whomever it is I'm sharing with.
I agree with this Chinese proverb.
I get incredible value from the services I provide and, yes, I would talk about them even if I didn't make money from them.
To you salespeople, how do you get around this interesting phenomenon?
I decided long ago to share what I know if it will bring the person value.
After all, there are a lot of people complaining these days, many with good reason.
Do you share about things that bring value to you, even at the risk of being labeled salesy?
