I've noticed that too many people I meet put me into their email campaigns without my permission.
I'm not only talking about it happening here on LinkedIn. It happens after I attend live events where I gave someone my business card.
They won't engage afterward, maybe have a cup of coffee or a Zoom meeting. They treat the digital campaign as the sole source of communication.
It's bad enough on social media but when local people put me in a campaign without asking my permission, it doesn't sit right with me.
Those emails clutter my inbox.
I meet with my connections to get to know them better. I want to hear from them who their ideal client is, so I can refer them. I expect the same in face-to-face gatherings.
I don't need their newsletters or marketing messages. Newsletters are for clients existing clients, in my opinion.
Unless I opt-in to an email campaign, I don't want it. Too many campaigns come without the option to opt-in or out.
⭐️ My promise to my network is two-fold:
✅ 1) I will not put you in any campaign unless we discuss it first.
✅ 2) For those who do put me into their campaigns without permission, I will put them into a campaign.
Guess how many of the people who flood my inbox with their marketing garble have opted into my campaign...
ZERO! It's exactly as I expected. They don't want my marketing materials any more than I want theirs.
They have no desire to learn about what I do and how I help people.
They are thinking only of themselves.
I would be happy to introduce anyone in my network to people who may appreciate those campaign messages.
This message is for those of you who send out marketing campaigns without asking permission.
Stop focusing on individuals here on Linkedin and focus on who they know! You are missing the bigger picture.
Get to know people before you bombard them with your marketing campaign.
