❤️ I love networking events. It's the whole atmosphere of seeing familiar faces, as well as meeting new people that I love. My goal at networking events is to cultivate relationships and help others connect. Many people don't feel comfortable at networking events. Those are the people I am also looking for to help them get acquainted with others. The whole event is like a dance. It might be a country western where partners are changing constantly or a slow waltz where discussion partners change slowly. It's all about finding people to pass referrals to and receive referrals from...OVER TIME. You gather business cards so you can follow up with people. ❓ How many people who requested your business card followed through after the event? Likewise, how many people whose cards you received do you follow up with after the event? ✅ Proper follow-up must take place within 24/48 hours after a networking event. WHY? Because people will forget who you are, the same way you forget who they are, the longer you wait. ✅ ✅ Better yet, set up a time to follow up during the event. Follow-up is one of the most important steps you can take in networking and building relationships. But why should I follow up, you ask? They should follow up with me! Because this is not a game of child's play, don't assume people will follow up even if they seemed eager to sell to you!! Be the first one to follow up because that puts you in control of the process. You don't have to buy from them but they will appreciate that you took the time and that will stick with them. Make following up after a networking event part of your process! It will make all the difference in your business relations. Each time you follow up, set a time for the next conversation. If following up with people 5-7 times is too much work, don't go to networking events. In fact, if you aren't following up at least 5-7 times, you probably shouldn't be in sales. Do you follow up?
