Do you put your trust in others?

Last week I faced a difficult situation.

I could skip going to an open enrollment after the school failed to notify the benefits providers until the day before.

The other option was to send an inexperienced team member to give the presentation.

I chose to allow my team member to get some experience.

Later that day, I called him to see how it went. He gave himself a D on his presentation. He wasn't confident at all that it went well.

I called the school to see if any applications had been turned in. (This was the call I had with the elevator in my previous post)

The HR director said she saw people filling out apps but none had come in yet.

She also confirmed that my colleague had done a great job and she gave him a A+. You can tell I'm dealing with a school here, right?

The next morning, I got an email from the school with 11 applications. 2 more came in later that day.

I called my colleague to tell him the good news.

He has gained a new sense of confidence and is super excited to get to work.

By putting my trust in this team member, I helped him get out of his shell and feel a significant shift in his ability to speak in front of people.

Teachers can be intimidating for someone who isn't used to speaking in front of a room. That's what they do for a living.

Put your trust in someone who isn't sure of themselves and watch them rise to the occasion.

Have you ever given a task to someone who had gone through training but had no experience?

What was the outcome?
