In one of my recent posts, several people named charities they feel strongly about.
Non-profits can be a force for positive change. They may tackle social issues like poverty or environmental problems. They provide services and resources that might not otherwise be available.
It's not easy to run a non-profit. Aside from government grants, they also depend on public support through memberships, volunteers, and donations.
There are thousands of non-profit organizations to choose from but do you know how to see if they are credible?
I use a website called Charity Navigator to look at the ratings of charities. I put a link in the comments.
It may come as a shock, as it did for me, to look up an organization you support to find that it isn't as "charitable" as you thought. A lot of their money goes into the wrong pockets, never reaching the cause they are meant to support.
Check Charity Navigator before making a decision on where to put your money, as many non-profits have low ratings or none at all.
It's possible your church or business networking group supports a specific cause.
Some groups choose a different non-profit each year to support.
There are also a lot of people abusing their charities for personal gain.
That's why it is helpful to do some research first.
Do you support any charity personally or through your work?
