Did you hear that MGM Resorts experienced a cyber attack on Monday, September 11?
Among other things, guests could not use digital room keys, slot machines were down, and the resort could only do transactions with cash.
Computer systems were shut down, causing digital keys to be useless. The information stolen included names, addresses, and passport information.
This is not the largest hacking of hotel guest information that has occurred. In 2017, Marriott Hotels experienced a data breach that exposed 500 million guests worldwide.
But that's not the point!
What does this all mean?
You, your family, and your employees could become victims of a cyber attack at any time. This is not an attempt to freak people out. It's a fact.
We need to be prepared.
The question is, are you prepared? Are your employees prepared?
Too many people still believe that monitoring services are enough.
Remember that over 70% of identity theft can not be monitored. Monitoring services through banks, credit card companies, credit bureaus or insurance are of little value.
They may provide some monetary relief for loss of work and such. That is code for - you will do most of the restoration work yourself!
Have you considered the legal issues that can arise because of identity theft?
This could mean bench warrants for your arrest from crimes committed in your name that you are unaware of. Or you may receive a tax bill for jobs you (your social security number) have in another state.
Can you afford to take time off to remedy an identity theft issue?
Employees may have trouble focusing on their jobs or must take personal time off to handle identity theft, not to mention liability issues for the company.
Do you trust your current identity theft protection service to go beyond monitoring?
