I want to thank @Scott Newton for recommending the book Compassionate Capitalism by Blaine Bartlett and David Meltzer.
Early on, they discuss environmental degradation and mention a day I have never heard of, Earth Overshoot Day. I put a link to the website in the comments.
According to Barlett and Meltzer, Overshoot day is when humanity’s demand for ecological resources and services in a given year exceeds what Earth can regenerate in that year.
The concept of Earth Overshoot Day is sobering and eye-opening. It reveals the immense strain our modern lifestyle places on the planet, often without us realizing it.
Climate change, global warming, and environmental concerns are heavily politicized in the US, making it difficult to have productive conversations about them.
This is a mouthful - According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), a global body of scientists established by the United Nations, more than 95% of actively publishing climate scientists agree that human activities are causing global warming and that this trend can be reversed, to some extent, by taking appropriate actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate climate change.
Can we leave politics out of it and find solutions?
By holding ourselves and our leaders accountable, we can work towards a healthier, more sustainable world for all living beings.
Does your company have any standards to help keep the planet clean?
