Do work incentives motivate or distract you?

Are you aware that some of your employees are not motivated by incentives? That doesn’t mean they are any less motivated to work hard.

I’m one of those people who are more distracted than motivated by incentives at work. Incentives cause me to lose concentration rather than motivate me to hit that incentive producing goal. I’m already doing my best, so simple recognition for a job well done provides me with the incentive to do even better. If anything, when an incentive is involved, my motivation turns to fear of losing out rather than being excited about reaching a goal.
