Do you set aside time to prepare for your upcoming week?
Benjamin Franklin famously said. “If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail!” There's great wisdom in those words.
Stephen Covey's 30/10 Rule is simple, and therefore, also easy not to do. It's one of those slight edge commitments you make. You plan your week, and each day, every day.
Take 30 minutes before the beginning of a new week to plan out the week.
Take 10 minutes each day to plan the next day. That's it. Sounds easy, but are you doing it?
If you don't have enough time during the week to get everything done, try using this simple method that includes putting in the big rocks first, then the pebbles, and then the sand.
The big rocks are those standing obligations that can not be changed, such as board meetings, important client meetings, family time, and recreation. They are the non-negotiable events that you can not/ will not change.
The pebbles are the daily to-do list items that you can schedule more flexibly; lunchtime, social media posts, and email, whatever you want to get done but can fit in around the non-negotiables.
The sand is where you can find a lot of wasted time. You fill in your calendar with the things you like but really don't need like watching TV, unnecessary social media time, and last-minute things that are not vital to your success or family.
Plan together with your team and see how much better the day will flow. Watch your business run more smoothly. Get your organization on board with taking small steps to make a greater impact. It is time well spent.
