How do you handle events beyond your control such as emergencies, a last-minute cancellation by an employee, or inclement weather?
Have you taken an assessment of your initial reactions and ultimate handling of situations that are beyond your control? Do you overreact, panic or lose your ability to think?
Entire organizations can fail when the leader/leaders are not able to handle unexpected or uncontrollable events. No one wants to be responsible. No one wants to be blamed, so they look up to the leaders. At each level, someone is looking up and, as they say, there comes a point where one person must say, "the buck stops here". That leader will take the actions needed to alleviate the situation. That person is a true leader.
Are you that leader? Are you the type of person who will help first and ask questions later, or do you join the crowd and look up to the next level?
If you aren't that kind of person, my first question would be why not? What would have to change for you to become a true leader, one that will make tough decisions, and carry them out, not just delegate to someone else?
