There is nothing new about the concept of “the slight edge”. Great thought leaders like Neville Goddard, who was talking about this in the 1940s, Jim Rohn, in his teachings and Jeff Olson, in his 2005 book titled The Slight Edge, all talked about the slight edge.

The importance of practicing the slight edge is that it can be applied to just about every aspect of our lives. It’s about making decisions consistently on the things we do and how we do them.

Here are “The seven slight edge habits” as Jeff Olson sees them:

  • Show up.

  • Show up consistently.

  • Show up consistently with a positive outlook.

  • Be prepared for and committed to the long haul.

  • Cultivate a burning desire backed by faith.

  • Be willing to pay the price.

  • And do the things you’ve committed to doing—even when no one else is watching.

I had the privilege of being quoted in the 6th and 7th editions of Jeff Olson’s book. Jeff Olson was an integral part of the company I was with at the time and I had the opportunity to be coached by him personally. Jeff Olson wouldn't remember me now, but I will never forget the coaching tips he gave me.

There is so much more in the book. Jeff provides stories that build a strong visual of the concept of the slight edge. Stories help us understand concepts so we put them to use in our lives.

It was a slight edge decision I made to write a few words about how Jeff's training had helped me. Several months later, his latest edition of the book was released. I had no idea I had even been mentioned until a friend called me to tell me I was quoted in a list of quotes at the beginning of the book. Then, I heard from someone else that my entire quote had been used and was highlighted in a box.

I thought those boxes were for "special" people. It turns out, the only difference between someone who got recognized and someone who doesn't was that slight edge decision they made to participate.
