I was commenting on @Damon Burton's post when it occurred to me that my response could be a post.

Damon wrote about his experiences with flying.

It seems as if everyone travels but that's not always the case, and certainly not for work.

The vast majority of employees and small business owners do their work from a set location, or at least, they used to.

Traveling by air is special to most people. It's not something they do on a regular basis.

We took trips several times a year when I lived in Europe.

My kids grew up saying, Do we have to take another plane?

Then, we moved from Europe to a small town in Michigan.

My son, then age 16, had an enlightening experience at school.

He came home from school saying they had shown a slide show of big cities around the world.

He said, Mom, I've been to most of them!! They showed Rome, Paris, London, Shanghai...

...the list went on. Then he said they showed a picture of Detroit and no one in the class knew what it was!!

This amazed him that kids didn't know the closest major city, which was only 1 1/2 hours away.

I just stood there listening. He was contemplative for a moment, then said, That was special what we did, wasn't?

BINGO!! Suddenly he understood that most people have not had the experiences he already had in his young life.

It changed his whole perspective on life and travel.

As a result, he ended up being sent to Berlin for work and then to England.

He LOVES flying now.

My daughters work took her to 49 states, multiple times, over a 6 year period. She hasn't been to Alaska YET.

Some people fly and other people drive, but work can take us many places. Some interesting, and some not so interesting.

It's all about what you make of the experience.

Do you travel for work?
