Last week, the State of Texas was declared a State of Emergency.

I learned that many people don’t know what that means.

The Wikipedia definition states- A state of emergency or emergency powers is a situation in which a government is empowered to be able to put through policies that it would normally not be permitted to do, for the safety and protection of their citizens. A government can declare such a state during a natural disaster, civil unrest, armed conflict, medical pandemic or epidemic or other biosecurity risk.

Texas and many other areas in the country definitely experienced a natural disaster and many are still waiting for electricity and water to be restored.

I got the feeling that many people feel that through status they should be more privileged than others, but nothing is further from the truth.

In a State of Emergency, those who have the greatest needs come first.

A person’s elite status means nothing, nor should it. Being part of a bonus program of some sort should not offer you privileges in a time when others have greater need.

How do feel about the loss of privilege in an emergency?
