How does that resonate with you? I feel happy and sad. I'm happy that we will take the time to recognize so many underappreciated, influential, powerful people from our country's past, but sad that we continue to separate black from white. Don't get me wrong.
I wish that from the beginning it had all gone differently, with everyone working together. I wish there had been no slaves.
I wish we could record our history factually, including everyone involved. What if we could re-tell the story of America including all of the people, African, European, Asian, Native American, in a narrative that would explain from all sides how this country came to be what it is today.
Would the primarily white people who are celebrated as the pioneers and founders still feel as proud as we once did?
