292 - Is entertainment media dumbing us down?

I have a confession to make.

I don’t own a TV or play videos games.

When I realized how much time I was spending on entertainment that did little to encourage thought or make me a better person, I gave it all up.

It wasn't as if I was giving it up cold turkey.

After living abroad for 25 years, I found it difficult to find humor in most American sitcoms.

My children weren't interested in watching it either so when my TV "went on the blink" I tossed it out and haven't looked back.

I notice so many young people who are only interested in playing video games and other virtual entertainment.

They have no drive, no ambition and I swear it feels like it's because they are addicted to games they play,

Of course, it's not everyone in that age range. I'm obviously generalizing but how do we help them overcome this obsession?

Is it just me or do you recognize that we have a problem and no one seems to be interested in addressing it?

Is entertainment media dumbing us down?
