807 - Technology's Great When It Works!

It's been an interesting week.

On Thursday, I had a conversation with an elevator.

It wasn't the elevator itself. The phone system of the company I was calling transferred me to the elevator.

Thankfully, someone was in it.

A woman answered cautiously. '...Hello??'

Hello, I said as I introduced myself and asked for the head of HR.

She responded, "This is the elevator."

It was one of those gut reaction moments that made me "go with it".

I cheerfully said, "Hello, Elevator, Nice to talk to you! How's your day going?"

She chuckled, then said, "Well, pretty good, I guess...it has its ups and downs."

My reply was, "I bet you love giving people a lift every day!"

At this point, we both cracked up. It was clear the telephone system had transferred me to the wrong location.

We wished each other a nice day and I decided to hang up and try again.

It was then that I realized, I never even gave her my elevator pitch! It's nice to take a minute out of your day to laugh now and then.

I have no idea who it was I spoke with. Was it the CEO, a new hire or a member of the cleaning crew?

That will remain a mystery. But I'm pretty sure she's home telling her family about our uplifting conversation. (Did you see what I did there? )
