Why are so many people afraid of silence?
I wrote a post a while back about the importance of silence.
🏌♀️ Today a friend of mine, who is an LPGA golf instructor, told a story about her recent experience on the golf course.
One would assume that the music volume would be low on a golf course so as not to disturb other golfers.
⛳ The golf course is known to be a serene place, as well as one where a lot of business conversations and transactions take place.
That is no longer the case, as my friend explained what happened as she was playing golf.
She said you could hear the music of the group ahead of her blasting well before approaching the green and it wasn't just loud, it was vulgar.
That seemed like an oxymoron to me.
❓ Who would play loud music on a golf course?
Loud music on a golf course is as inappropriate as it would be in a library, museum, or during chess tournaments.
There have always been places where silence is understood and respected.
It made me wonder how people must now contend with the loud music of their colleagues at work.
I thought about all the other places people no longer respect neighbors, colleagues, and others around them as their music blares.
❌ They think it's their right to do whatever they want.
On another note, I recently asked a gentleman at a hotel reception about a small device he was holding.
He explained that it was a speaker so he could listen to his music via Bluetooth.
😱 Otherwise, he said, "I would have to listen to the voices in my head and that's not a good place to be."
YIKES! I thought it was sad that he is unaware that we don't have to believe every thought that comes into our minds.
Are people trying to drown out their thoughts?
Why are so many people afraid of silence?
✅ Silence can be calming, soothing, and energizing.
Do you ever have to tolerate unwanted noise from others?
